UK Truck Simulator is a video game that puts the player behind the wheel of one of many trucks and gives them the duty of making deliveries around England.

Simulation games fill a particular niche in the video game market. What started out as a curiosity has become a full-blown phenomena. There are simulation games for practically anything. Players can live completely different lives through these simulation games. Some of these games center around fantastical concepts, like ruling a whole alien race, while others focus on the more commonplace. On the more "commonplace" end of the spectrum is UK Truck Simulator.

As far as truck simulations go, UK Truck Simulator is a pretty decent game. Players are able to select from a relatively large number of different kinds of trucks. In addition, the maps are impressively large. Driving is also a fairly immersive experience. Players can experience driving a large truck from directly behind the steering wheel, but there is also an option to view the truck from a third-person perspective. This is a simulation game, however, so the third-person perspective is not recommended for maximum enjoyment. There are a number of sensitivity settings that can be adjusted and, although it does break flow, these sensitivity options can be accessed and adjusted through the menu at any time.

When backing up the truck, there are appropriate sounds. While there is a side mirror on the physical side of the truck, additional video feeds can be engaged during moments of driving in reverse to help facilitate driving backwards. While this might not be entirely realistic, it is incredibly helpful and a great way to compensate for the other physical limitations that come from playing a truck-driving simulation instead of actually driving a truck. What is handy is that these rear views can be engaged at any other time to help drivers navigate through streets and highways safely.

This game does a very good job about maintaining a good sense of realism when it comes to street safety. Other cars will drive past in unpredictable clusters, so it is up to players to maintain a good buffer. Hopefully, players remember how to be smart, defensive drivers. In regards to UK Truck Simulator's attention, it is important to note that the roads and trucks all obey current UK driving environments. That means US players might need to take some time to get used to the new layout of the road. Luckily, the missions are long enough to allow any player ample opportunity to learn the driving mechanisms. To say that the missions are long is no understatement. Each mission is impressively long and goes through a variety of different terrains and traffic, so players need to pay close attention and react accordingly.

Unfortunately, there are just enough problems with UK Truck Simulator that make it just an average truck-driving simulator. Though the missions are long, the graphics are unimpressive. The physics of the game play are just not realistic enough to make a noticeable difference. The biggest downside is that unless a player is a die-hard truck-simulation fan, the very long missions can become incredibly boring.
